Questions
Questions on eclipse glasses
The standard, the origin, children, optics, and care.
What does EN ISO 12312-2:2015 actually guarantee?
That the filter is made for looking straight at the Sun. Model A1 is category II PPE under Regulation (EU) 2016/425, with an EU type examination. It does not mean any dark lens. The published transmittance is for the tested pair, not a guarantee of every batch.
What if I stack two pairs of sunglasses?
They are still sunglasses. Polarised, category 4, or stacked, they do not replace an EN ISO 12312-2:2015 filter. Neither does an X-ray sheet or smoked glass.
When is totality?
2 August 2027, in the morning. The IGN maximum is 10:46:53 in Cádiz, 10:47:29 in Tarifa, 10:47:42 in Algeciras and 10:47:47 in Ceuta. Málaga is 10:49:06, Motril 10:50:12 and Melilla 10:50:32. On the Almería coast, Roquetas de Mar is 10:51:19; the city of Almería stays partial.
Are they made in Spain?
Yes. Model A1 is manufactured in Spain: an FSC-certified board frame, by Celestech Vision Solar, SL, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona). It is a national product.
Can children use them?
The size is adult and adjustable. Children need an adult watching and a secure fit. If they do not sit firmly on the face, they are not for looking at the Sun.
Can I use them with a telescope or a phone?
No. Do not use them with telescopes, binoculars, cameras or any other optical device. They are for the eye, in direct observation.
How do you care for them, and when do you replace them?
Inspect them before every use. If the filter is scratched, punctured, loose or faulty in any way, throw them out. Clean with a soft cloth. Keep them dry, out of the sun and away from damage. The replacement period is the one in the instructions that come with the batch. Service life depends on condition and storage, and it is not guaranteed.
